Your desktop won’t power on, powers on and dies immediately, or the fans spin but nothing appears on screen? After diagnosis the motherboard is often the culprit. At the Comp-Master lab in Ashdod we find the cause and carry out a desktop motherboard replacement — matching a board to your CPU and memory, transferring every component and testing the whole system.
Let’s be upfront, because it’s the first question we’re asked: on desktop motherboards we don’t do component-level repair, we replace. The reason is purely economic — a desktop board is a standard, available part at a reasonable price, and replacement delivers a certain result with a warranty. Soldering work on such a board costs almost as much as a new one and gives no long-term certainty. Where a board can’t simply be swapped — laptops, MacBooks, all-in-ones, mini PCs and game consoles — we do repair at component level, and that is the core of our lab work.
Signs that point to the motherboard
- No power at all — no LEDs, no fans, even though the power supply tests fine.
- Powers on for a second and shuts down, sometimes in a loop.
- No display while fans run — a POST failure, memory or the graphics slot.
- Beeps at startup or an error code on the board’s display.
- Dead USB ports — all of them or just some.
- Random restarts that a clean OS install didn’t solve.
- Memory not detected in a particular slot.
- After a power cut or lightning the machine never came back.
Important: the exact same symptoms come from a faulty power supply, bad memory or a CPU issue. That’s why diagnosis always starts by separating causes rather than swapping parts blindly.
What the service includes
- Diagnosis — load testing and separation between board, power supply, memory, CPU and graphics card.
- Board matching — the right socket for your CPU, memory type (DDR4/DDR5), slot and port count, and a form factor that fits your case.
- Full replacement — disassembly and transfer of the CPU, cooler, memory, drives and graphics card to the new board.
- BIOS update or flashing — usually required so the board recognises your CPU. Free for customers who buy the board from us.
- Full system check — including whether the fault also affected drives or the power supply.
- Operating system — Windows usually keeps working after a board swap; if a reinstall is needed, we keep your files.

You can buy the board from us — our computer store keeps motherboards in stock — or bring your own.
So when is a motherboard actually repaired?
When replacement isn’t possible or isn’t worth it — which is exactly the case for every other computer type:
- Laptops — the board is model-specific, expensive and sometimes unavailable. This is our main specialisation: power circuits, charging sockets, chips and trace restoration. See laptop motherboard repair.
- MacBook and iMac — logic boards are very expensive, and component-level repair saves thousands of shekels. See Apple computer repair.
- All-in-ones and mini PCs — the board is built for the chassis and can’t be swapped for a standard one. See all-in-one repair.
- PlayStation and Xbox consoles — here soldering is the only option, and we do it every week. See console repair.
Bring it to us in Ashdod
A desktop tower is heavy and awkward to ship, so the simplest route is to bring the case to the lab at Gia Oni 6, Ashdod — no monitor, keyboard or mouse, just the power cable. We take in computers from Ashdod, Ashkelon, Yavne, Gedera, Kiryat Malakhi, Be’er Tuvia and the whole south.
A tip that saves time: tell us at intake what happened before the failure — a power cut, a part swap, a cleaning or an upgrade. It points us straight at the cause.
FAQ
Why don’t you repair desktop motherboards?
Because it isn’t good value for the customer. The board is an available part at a fair price, while soldering work costs nearly the same without long-term certainty. Where a board can’t be replaced (laptop, MacBook, all-in-one, console) we do repair at component level.
The PC won’t start — is it definitely the board?
No. The most common causes are the power supply, memory or CPU. Lab diagnosis separates them before anything is replaced.
Do I keep my CPU, memory and drives?
Yes, in most cases. We move every component to the new board and check that the fault didn’t damage them.
Will Windows still work after the board is replaced?
Usually yes; sometimes drivers and licence reactivation are needed. If a reinstall is required, we keep your files.
What’s the warranty?
6 months on a board supplied by us. Boards brought by the customer and physical damage are not covered.
How long does it take?
Diagnosis up to 3 business days; the replacement itself usually one business day once the board is in stock.
